Psychological Testing and Evaluation
I do learning, attention, memory, and educational evaluations as well as
personality assessments. I use interview, observations, standardized tests,
behavior rating scales, and projective assessment techniques. Some people
present only for testing and evaluation, and our work may end with the
evaluation report. Sometimes I find it useful to test people who are working
with me in psychotherapy, to get other perspectives of the person. I always try
to explain the results of my evaluations in clear language and provide helpful
recommendations. I will communicate with school personnel as needed.
Below are some
psychological and psychoeducational tests I use:
Verbal/Nonverbal learning:
Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC-IV, age 6 to
16)
Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS-III, age 16+).
Test of Nonverbal Intelligence (TONI-3)
Learning and Memory Process:
Test of Learning and Memory (TOMAL, up to age 19)
Wechsler Memory Scale (WMS-III, 16-old age).
Reading Process:
Comprehensive Test of Phonological
Processing (CTOPP)
Test of Word Reading Efficiency (TOWRE)
Nelson Denny
School Achievement:
Wechsler Individual Achievement Test (WIAT II)
Attention:
Test of Variables of Attention
(TOVA); Visual and Auditory versions.
Computer test that measures responses
(e.g., omission errors, commission errors, correct responses, response times,
and response time variability) to stimuli under "boring" and "stimulating"
conditions. Scores are compared to norms to identify attention problems.
Scores can
sometimes be used to differentiate between ADD (inattention) and ADHD
(impulsivity).
Stoop Color and Word Test.
Behavior Rating Scales:
The Achenbach checklists (Child
Behavior Checklist, for parents; Youth Self Report; Teacher Report Form);
Parenting Stress Inventory.
Perceptual Tests:
Test of Visual Motor Integration (VMI),
Bender Gestalt Visual Motor Test.
Personality and Emotions:
Objective personality measures, including
Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI-2 for adults, MMPI-A for adolescents),
Beck Depression Scale, Beck Hopelessness Scale, Beck Anxiety Scale, NEO Five Factor
Personality Profile, Child Depression Inventory; Marital Satisfaction Inventory
Projective techniques, including Rorschach
Inkblot Technique, Reynolds Apperception Test for Children, Thematic Apperception
